March Offer of the Month : Dark and White Peak Explorer Offer

TrackLogs Digital Mapping

Teach yourself some elemental Peak District geology. Some 300 million years ago the layers of the Peak District were deposited. Lots of limestone on the bottom, about 5 metres of gritstone on the top. Push it all up into hills, scrape off the top and we're left with 5 metre high edges and lots of limestone.

The result is a park of two halves. To the south most of the gritstone has gone leaving the lighter (white) rock. To the north there's still plenty of (dark) gritstone to be found.

Now you understand the geology, go visit both halves of the UK's premier national park and see the differences for yourself. You'll need our special offer pack of Dark and White Peak District Explorer maps. Just £50 for the pair.
