How accurately can I position my own site centred map?
Our site centred mapping service lets you create your own custom digital map. Online web tools are used to choose the centre, the width and the height of your map. Your map can be positioned anywhere on a 10km grid covering the whole of Great Britain
Building your map from digital tiles.
Digital maps use square data tiles which TrackLogs stitches together to create seamless mapping across Great Britain. The type and scale of the map determines the size of each individual tile. We look at the area you'd like for your custom map, calculate which tiles you require, then create a custom CDROM containing these map tiles. The TrackLogs software (included with your map) assembles the tiles into your custom site centred map.
Aligning your map with the digital tiles.
To ensure alignment across all map scales we limit the resolution of our site centred service to 10km. You don't need to understand fully how and why we do this but you may notice when positioning your site centred map that it jumps 10km at a time. This 10km resolution should be sufficiently fine to position your map where required. We cannot provide maps which do not align to this grid. If you can't get everything you need into your map then you need a bigger map.
