Error - "The Parameter is Incorrect" during package import.
SYMPTOMS
TrackLogs reports an error "The Parameter is Incorrect" when attempting to import package data from CDROM. This can occur each time the user accesses the "File=>Import Data" command or during the automatic package import after first installation.
VERSIONS / OPERATING SYSTEMS
All Windows operating systems. TrackLogs v2 and early releases of TrackLogs v3.
STATUS
Microsoft have acknowledged this as a problem in applications built using specific software development tools. Whilst an emergency patch has been made available by Microsoft their recommendation is not to globally distribute this until further testing has been carried out. Third party reports on the emergency patch indicate that it negatively impacts other Microsoft functions and is genereally unreliable. TrackLogs is currently observing Microsoft's advice to hold general release of this patch until such time that it is fully tested and service pack integrated. Note that the Microsoft article refers to the use of the "File=>Open" command, this is used internally within TrackLogs during package import. We do not recommend you apply this patch locally.
WORKAROUND
If you are running TrackLogs v3 then update your software to the latest version. If you are unable to update or are running TrackLogs v2 then you can use the workaround described below.
This issue is tied to the access of data from your CDROM drive. The workaround requires the transfer of the CDROM files to a temporary directory on your hard drive for the purposes of installation only.
| Step 1. Copy packages to hard disk |
|
| Step 2. Install Application |
|
| Step 3. Start Application |
