Error - "Multiple Icons appearing on the Desktop after Installation"

Unwanted icons appearing in the windows desktop after installation of TrackLogs software. Unwanted icons may appear as Microsoft Access files and may be named OSLRM**.MDB or OSEGM**.MDB.

TrackLogs Digital Mapping Version 2.

The operating systems affected by this problem are limited to Windows 98 and Windows ME.

The fix for this problem requires a registry edit. Registry editing can render your PC inoperative and is done at your own risk. We recommend you backup your registry prior to making any changes. Information on backing up and restoring your registry in Windows 95/98/ME is contained in the following link to a Microsoft Knowledge Base article.

This problem is caused by selecting the desktop directory as the default location for TrackLogs databases. This is sometimes suggested as the default setting when installing on Windows 98 and Windows ME. The procedure for fixing this problem involves changing the default path used for the TrackLogs databases. You will need to decide on a suitable alternative path, we recommend "C:\TrackLogs\Data". If you wish to preserve your routes during this process we recommend you use the "Save As" command from the TrackLogs application to save them individually to a safe place.

Step 1. Running the Registry Editor
Left click on the "Start" button on the lower left corner of the windows desktop and select "run". Type "regedit" in the box and click OK to start the registry editor.
Step 2. Finding the Registry Entry
The registry editor is just like windows explorer with a tree of folders on the left hand side. You can click on the plus and minus signs to expand and collapse the folders. Select the folder named

HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/TrackLogs/TrackLogs Digital Mapping/Settings

Step 3. Making the Change
The right hand window will list all of the entries contained within this folder. Double click on the entry titled "Database Path". In the box labelled "Value Data" replace the path to your desktop with your new database path chosen earlier (e.g. C:\TrackLogs\Data). It is essential that this is typed exactly with no additional spaces or extra slashes anywhere. Always use back-slashes (top left to bottom right) and don't forget the colon. Click OK to accept the change and then close the registry editor.

You can now delete all the unwanted icons from your desktop. You will now need to start the TrackLogs application and re-import all the data packages from the CDROM. If the new directory you chose does not exist then TrackLogs will create it for you.
